Wesley Matthews got traded by the Mavericks to the Knicks then bought out by New York. He signed with the Pacers, who visit Dallas tonight.

Matthews, via Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com:

“They got to do what they got to do, but I’m still going to try to kill ‘em,” Matthews said. “I’m going to try to take all their heads off.

“And if that ball bounces too close to Rick (Carlisle), I’ll go for that, too. Same with (Mark) Cuban, if that ball bounces too close to the sideline and I can save it, he better have his hands ready.”

I don’t think Matthews is actually mad at the Mavericks. He’s a competitor who wants to show up the people who – even justifiably – dealt him. This about finding an edge.

Matthews’ passion is part of what attracted the Mavericks to him. They’ll just be on the receiving end of it now.

Which they might not mind as they head toward increasing the odds of keeping their top-five-protected first-round pick this year.
