Rumor: Jayson Tatum wouldn’t mind getting traded for Anthony Davis, becoming face of Pelicans

For all the talk of the Lakers’ chemistry problems after dangling most of the roster in Anthony Davis trade negotiations, the Celtics also put most of their players into a Davis pitch and appear to be facing internal issues.

One player seemingly not fazed: Boston forward Jayson Tatum, who said “I’d trade me too for Anthony Davis.”

Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

It’s gossip, but the gossip is Jayson Tatum wouldn’t mind. Jayson Tatum wouldn’t mind if he’s shipped to New Orleans and has a chance to be the face of the franchise somewhere. Because he’s not going to get that opportunity in Boston, at least not in the immediate future.

Tatum could become the face of the Celtics if Kyrie Irving leaves. I wouldn’t count on that, but it’s possible.

Tatum would likely get top billing with the Pelicans if they trade Davis for him. New Orleans moving up in the lottery – especially for Zion Williamson – would the the only foreseeable impediment.

Would Boston deal Tatum for Davis, though? Maybe. Tatum has the Celtics’ leading to acquire Davis this offseason, but Boston also has several other desirable assets.

If Tatum would welcome a trade, that could push the Celtics to include him in an offer. Keeping him, with him falling to third in the pecking order behind Irving and Davis, could undermine chemistry.

Tatum should feel free to pursue the career he wants. He’s under contract two more seasons with Boston, so his leverage is limited right now. But with Davis available, it might work out soon for Tatum to get his own team.
