Kings reportedly exercising options on assistant coaches, which instills stability

The Kings’ surprisingly good and fun season has been slightly marred by internal strife. Sacramento coach Dave Joerger even got put on the hot seat.

This should relieve tension.

Sam Amick of The Athletic:

This doesn’t mean Sacramento will absolutely keep Joerger next season. But it sure indicates it.

The Kings have a good thing going, and they should do what they can to keep it intact. Joerger has done a great job and deserves to stay.

But Sacramento also named Tyrone Corbin coach for the rest of the 2014-15 season then hired George Karl a couple months later. The Kings said they wouldn’t trade DeMarcus Cousins then traded him a couple weeks later.

So, Sacramento doesn’t deserve benefit of the doubt. For all their apparent progress, the Kings haven’t proven they’ve grown past their disarray.

But this is an early positive step in the opportunity to demonstrate a sound plan and follow through on it.
