Injuries pile up on Denver: Now Gary Harris will miss weeks with hip injury

The 17-8 Denver Nuggets sit atop the Western Conference, but injuries are starting to hit them hard. Already Will Barton, Isaiah Thomas, and Michael Porter Jr.were out due to injury.

Then came the news starting power forward Paul Millsap broke his right big toe and is going to miss time.

Now, add starting two guard Gary Harris to the mix. He strained his hip in the big win over the Raptors and has sat out the last two games, but it looks like he’s going to sit out a lot more.

How much time is Harris going to miss? Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said it could be up to a month.

Harris is averaging 16.6 points a game, provides valuable floor spacing on offense (although his shot has been off a little this season) and plays strong defense on the other end of the court. Denver sees him as part of their young core along with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

In the 518 minutes this season Harris and Millsap have been on the court together this season, the Nuggets have outscored their opponents by 7.3 points per 100 possessions. While that’s because they are usually out there with the Nuggets’ other best players, there is going to be a drop off without them.

Fortunately for the Nuggets, the fast start this season banked them some wins in case of injuries and struggles. Not every team in the West has that luxury.
