The tragic mass shooting at a Madden 19 tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, hit the NBA because one of the injured was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA 2K team.

Timothy Anselimo — who is known as “Olarry” and “Larry Legend” in the gaming world — was shot and among the injured at the event.

Our thoughts are with him and his family as he recovers.

Three people were killed — one of them the shooter — and another 11 injured in the incident. This was a regional qualifier for the Madden 19 tournament and the shooter, David Katz, was there for the tournament.

Anselimo was playing in the tournament as well, and was of Bucks gaming, participating in the first season of the official NBA 2K League, the first esports league operated by a U.S. professional sports league. The league had 17 teams this season (21 next season) and the New York Knicks team won the title over the weekend, beating the Miami Heat.
