Russell Westbrook skips Drew League game with super-max extension still unsigned

James Harden and Chris Paul provided a sneak peek of their partnership in the Drew League on Sunday. Watch the highlights above.

But the Rockets stars’ expected opponent, Russell Westbrook, didn’t show.

Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News:

I was surprised Westbrook planned to play, considering he still had a super-max extension – projected to be worth $207 million over five years – still on the table from the Thunder. Most player would finalize that deal before risking injury in a game, even an exhibition.

Was Westbrook’s planned participation a sign he’ll pass on the extension? Does him skipping the game indicate he will sign it?

He can get the same contract terms in free agency next summer. Going that route would also obviously leave open the possibility of him leaving Oklahoma City. So, there’s justifiably interest in reading the tea leaves on Westbrook’s extension plan.
