It’s official: Neither Joel Embiid nor Ben Simmons will play for Sixers in Summer League

At least we should be able to see whoever they draft at No. 3.

However, the two stars we most want to see play — Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons — will not play in Summer League, team president Bryan Colangelo confirmed to on Monday.

“Doing well. Everyone’s moving along,” Colangelo said of Embiid and Simmons. “Things are on course for a healthy return next season. They’re not playing in the summer league.”

This isn’t a surprise, the Sixers have always been cautious bringing players back from injury. Still, it’s disappointing just because we want to see them on the court. The Sixers will play in both the Orlando and Las Vegas summer leagues.

Embiid had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee last season, and he played in just 31 games. Simmons missed the entirety of last season because of a Jones fracture in his right foot.
