After eliminating the Celtics in the 2015 playoffs, LeBron James went out of his way to gush about Boston coach Brad Stevens.

No, Stevens still hasn’t won a playoff series, a frequent dig by his critics. But he’ll coach the 2017 Eastern Conference All-Star team led by LeBron.

With the Raptors’ loss to the Magic tonight (really, Toronto?), the Celtics clinched the Eastern Conference’s best record by a team not coached by Tyronn Lue through Sunday. Coaches are ineligible to coach consecutive All-Star games and the Cavaliers coach received the honor shortly after taking over for David Blatt last year. Steve Kerr will coach the Western Conference.

Stevens, with his clear communication and savvy schemes, seems to implement his plans with ease. He won’t get complex on this assignment. But ever chasing stars, Boston surely hopes Stevens impresses his players in a couple weekends.
