Kawhi Leonard has long arms and giant hands, and that makes him the 2-time Defensive Player of the Year so crafty. So when he stole the ball from teammate Pau Gasol on Thursday night, the San Antonio Spurs big man should not have been surprised, right?
With 9:30 left in the third quarter during their matchup against the Denver Nuggets, Leonard was rotating from left-to-right on a curl around Gasol. Standing at the elbow, Gasol was looking for a pass but Leonard apparently felt he was the best choice on the play.
That’s why he just straight up stole it out of Gasol’s hands:
Props to Kawhi on making the heads up play, and to Gasol for giving the requisite flop on what he thought was a foul up until he saw it was his own teammate taking the ball from him.
