Jonathan Simmons was a D-League standout for the Austin Spurs. Now, he’s standing out for the San Antonio Spurs, namely by flying through the air against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.
Simmons, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward, showed off his athleticism with a showcase of high-flying dunks. The first came in the third quarter off a pass from Kawhi Leonard for a sweet alley-oop:
Then Simmons showed off his defensive talent when he lost the ball at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
After Marcus Thornton stripped him, Simmons pursued the play the entire length of the floor and wound up with a block that send the ball flying into the lower level:
Finally, Simmons was called into duty with a monstrous putback jam (top of page) with a little more than five minutes to go in the fourth quarter that was extremely athletic.
San Antonio beat the Wizards, 112-100, as Simmons had 15 points, four assists, two steals, and one block in 23 minutes off the bench.
It’s safe to say that Simmons is a sparkplug and it will be interesting to see how he develops under Gregg Popovich.
