Marc Gasol had to leave early in the fourth quarter against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night with an apparent right ankle injury.
Luckily for Grizzlies fans, Gasol came back to the bench shortly after leaving, albeit a bit more relaxed:
Gasol, 31, has more than $93 million left on a 5-year deal he signed back in 2015 to remain in Tennessee. His first season under the new contract looked a bit hindered, and Gasol eventually underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his right foot in February of 2016.
A potential ankle injury on the same leg would not be good news for Memphis, who recently re-signed point guard Mike Conley in addition to adding sharpshooter Chandler Parsons in free agency this summer. Gasol is certainly a large part of the Grizzlies’ plan to reload for the playoffs under new head coach David Fizdale, and they can’t afford to have him out for any length of time.
Here’s hoping that Memphis simply pulled the Spanish big man as a precautionary measure during the preseason contest and he’ll be just fine after a little heat and ice.
