It’s just housekeeping at this point, but the Lakers are poised to make official one of their most important moves of the summer. According to The Vertical‘s Shams Charania, they plan to officially sign No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram to his rookie contract on Tuesday.
Until Russell Westbrook signed his extension with the Thunder earlier this month, it had been thought that the Lakers were putting off some of these moves in order to make sure they had the space to trade for Westbrook should such an opportunity present itself. Now, with no stars left on the trade market, they can go ahead and get this deal done. Once he signs, Ingram cannot be traded for 30 days, so if something unexpected happens and he is part of a deal later this offseason (a la Andrew Wiggins being traded for Kevin Love in 2014), it couldn’t be until closer to camp. But that’s highly, highly unlikely unless a player like DeMarcus Cousins unexpectedly becomes available.
