There’s a reason the Pelicans are adding so many new players who could join their rotation (Solomon Hill, E’Twaun Moore, Langston GallowayTerrence Jones and Buddy Hield).

Alonzo Gee started 38 games last season, fifth-most on New Orleans.

Injuries took a toll on a team lacking quality depth, and this influx of youngish talent should help. But there’s still a role for at least one old standby.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:

Gee opted out of a contract that would’ve paid him $1,379,400 next season. His minimum salary is $1,315,448. We’ll see whether his gamble paid off.

The 29-year-old Gee is a helpful defender, especially because his 6-foot-6 frame allows him to switch onto so many positions. But a shaky 3-point shot prevents him from filling a bigger role.
