Thunder’s Mitch McGary suspended five games for violating NBA’s drug policy

A drug violation sent Mitch McGary to the NBA.

Another one will prevent him from beginning next season with the Thunder.

NBA release:

The NBA announced today that Mitch McGary of the Oklahoma City Thunder has been suspended without pay for five games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program.  McGary’s suspension will begin with the next NBA regular season game that he is eligible and physically able to play.

A third marijuana violation would trigger a five-game suspension.

The NBA shouldn’t test and punish players for using marijuana, which is legal in multiple states and similar enough to alcohol that the hypocrisy of drug laws are glaring. Perhaps, the players union will take that up in Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations.

But, in the meantime, McGary failed to follow his own advice.
