The Kings are in win-now mode with players probably not good enough to win now.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
CSN California has confirmed that Sacramento native and former Del Campo High star, Matt Barnes is joining the Kings on a two-year, $12 million deal.
The second season of the deal is a player option.
Barnes has been declining for a few years. He still helped the Grizzlies last year, but he’s probably nearing the end of his productive NBA days. The Kings are so far from winning, I doubt he moves the needle for them in a positive way.
Still, he’s competitive, and Sacramento needs more of that attitude. If he helps change the culture, this deal could pay off. Barnes sometimes clashes with coaches, but Dave Joerger — who coached Barnes in Memphis last season — presumably endorsed the addition.
The Kings are pretty much out of cap room. They can still make trades to balance their roster, but shuffling — rather than adding — talent is the more likely course.
Curry moves onto bigger and better things after showing promise late last season. He’ll have plenty of suitors.
