The Kings were expected to struggle getting top-10 draft prospects to work out for them.

That might have been an understatement.

Chad Ford of ESPN:

Based on all the info I can find, the Kings only got 1 prospect ranked in our Top 30 in for a workout — Wade Baldwin. They didn’t even get medicals on most of the top 10 prospects. They’ve been completely shunned by agents.

Not every workout is publicized. Sacramento might have worked out other players and kept it under wraps. But it’d take a whole lot of secret workouts for the Kings to be on the same level as other teams.

Workouts also aren’t ultra important. Watching someone in games should carry far more weight. But they’re a piece of the puzzle, and Sacramento is working without a full picture. That’ll make it harder to get the No. 8 pick right.

The Kings are working to change their reputation after years of misery, but it’s an uphill battle. Their past failures in handling players are working against them.

One other note: Hopefully, those players consented to their medical info being shared with Sacramento. Medical privacy is important, and HIPAA protects it.
