Welcome to the offseason.
The first blockbuster trade of the summer – sorry, Bulls and Pistons – is here.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
I love George Hill‘s fit with the Jazz. He makes their strong defense even more imposing. Plus, he takes pressure off Dante Exum returning from injury. If Exum quickly returns to full strength and continues developing, Hill can play off the ball. The downside is Hill’s contract ends next summer. The No. 12 pick would be a reasonably high price to pay if Hill walks then.
The Pacers have long signaled they prefer a point guard who’s better with the ball in his hands, and they now have that in Jeff Teague – though I think Hill could’ve filled that role if asked to do so more often. Considering the defensive downgrade, I’m not convinced Indiana is better off. The debate about the style of the Pacers’ point guard will at least be settled now. Extending Teague will almost certainly require renegotiating his contract first this summer. That’ll cut into Indiana’s cap room.
The Hawks had room to trade Teague, because they had Dennis Schroder waiting in the wings. Does this signal Atlanta is rebuilding? Getting younger at point guard and adding a first-round pick, maybe the Hawks are concerned they’ll lose Al Horford in free agency?
