DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say former Michigan State basketball player Keith Appling has been arrested again on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody said Appling was arrested early Saturday after officers stopped a fast-driving Dodge Charger. Woody says officers saw Appling, a passenger, place a weapon under a seat.
The arrest comes days before Appling faces a hearing on weapons and drug charges from a May arrest outside a suburban Detroit strip club. The Friday hearing determines whether he goes to trial.
The Associated Press left a message for Cyril Hall, Appling’s attorney in that case.
Appling played for the Spartans from 2010-2014. He had two 10-day contracts with the Orlando Magic this season, getting into five games. He played most of the season the Magic’s Erie, Pennsylvania, affiliate in the NBA Development League where he averaged 19 points and 5.1 assists per game, shooting 37.5 percent from three.
