The Memphis Grizzlies fired head coach Dave Joerger last weekend and have been interviewing candidates to replace him. Names previously linked to the job have included Patrick Ewing, Frank Vogel and Ettore Messina. Another name to add to that list is Messina’s fellow Spurs assistant James Borrego.

From The Vertical‘s Adrian Wojnarowski:

San Antonio Spurs assistant coach James Borrego met with Memphis Grizzlies officials on Sunday to discuss the franchise’s head-coaching job, league sources told The Vertical.

Memphis officials have discussed the job with several candidates, including former Pacers coach Frank Vogel, and are working through an initial round of meetings, league sources said.

Borrego previously served as an assistant coach in Orlando and became the Magic’s interim head coach after the midseason firing of Jacque Vaughn in the 2014-15 season. After the year, he joined Gregg Popovich’s staff in San Antonio.
