Report: Scott Skiles was upset Magic didn’t pick up his option

Scott Skiles stunningly resigned as Magic coach this morning.

He reportedly disagreed with general manager Rob Hennigan on multiple issues – including the coach’s contract.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN:

This makes sense. Everyone evaluates jobs on a sliding scale of how much they enjoy the work and the compensation. Maybe Skiles would’ve put up with more of Hennigan’s ideas if he had more job security. Maybe he would’ve accepted his option being declined if he and Hennigan were closer to the same page.

With neither the case, Skiles walked away.

Skiles got a four-year contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. It’s unclear how many of those years were guaranteed, but Skiles coached only one year of the deal.
