The question has apparently been resolved.
Sources: Chandler Parsons underwent successful surgery to address the torn meniscus in his right knee Friday morning. Mavs team physician Dr. Daniel Worrel performed the arthroscopic procedure in Dallas. Parsons will miss the remainder of the season but is expected to be able to go through his normal offseason basketball workout routine.
The Mavericks have lost eight of their last 10 and now have just a half game lead on playoff position. It’ll be even harder to regain ground without Parsons. In a crowded race with the Trail Blazers, Jazz and Rockets, Dallas looks most likely to be the odd team out.
It always seemed unlikely Parsons could return this season, but if he had discretion, this was the prudent choice. Parsons has a $16,023,000 player option for next season. He can probably get a raise and long-term security by opting out with the salary cap skyrocketing, though teams will question his knee. Whether he becomes a free agent this summer or next, Parsons not rushing his recovery will help alleviate concerns.
