Jahlil Okafor reportedly planned to undergo surgery a week ago, but it didn’t happen.

Shades of Joel Embiid, whose surgery occurred 38 days after the 76ers stated a 7-10-day timeline?

If so, not nearly to the same extreme.

76ers release:

Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure today to address a slight tear of the meniscus in his right knee.

The minor procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews of the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and Sixers Head Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon of the Rothman Institute at Jefferson Dr. Christopher Dodson.

Okafor will begin his rehabilitation program tomorrow under the guidance of Sixers Director Of Performance Research & Development Dr. David T. Martin.

The 76ers have tried to downplay the severity of Okafor’s injury. Calling this surgery a “minor procedure” is the most direct attempt.

The proof will be in the pudding. If this is as minor as the 76ers claim, Okafor should return for summer league and without long-term affects.

At least his recovery process can finally begin.
