Report: Grizzlies fear Mario Chalmers ruptured Achilles

When Mario Chalmers suffered a non-contact injury against the Celtics last night, you had one suspicion: Achilles’ tendon.

The Grizzlies share it.

Zach Lowe of ESPN:

This has been a disastrous season injury-wise for Memphis.

Marc Gasol is out for the year, and Brandan Wright is sidelined indefinitely. Mike Conley, Zach Randolph and Chris Andersen have each missed the last couple games.

Chalmers, who has played well since being acquired in a midseason trade, would be another huge loss. That’s especially true if Conley remains sidelined. It’s not ideal for a playoff team to turn over point guard duties to Lance Stephenson.

The 38-26 Grizzlies are still fifth in the Western Conference, 4.5 games ahead of sixth. At this point, the goal should be holding onto fifth for dear life — which would likely bring a first-round matchup with the Clippers. The Clippers are no slouches, but I’d much rather face them than the Warriors, Spurs or Thunder.
