Report: Cavaliers to sign Jordan McRae for rest of season

The Cavaliers’ surprising strikeout on Joe Johnson, who opted for the Heat, left Cleveland in a bind to fill its roster.

A temporary solution – Jordan McRae on a 10-day contract – is becoming a permanent solution.

For a historically expensive team, the Cavaliers aren’t as deep as hoped.

Sasha Kaun hasn’t looked NBA-ready yet. More importantly, his teammates don’t seem to believe he’s NBA-ready. Mo Williams can’t seem to stay healthy.

The path for McRae – a versatile wing who could play a little point guard – making the active playoff roster is surprisingly clear. Once active, it’s a shorter step to postseason minutes.

Cleveland still has another open roster spot and could target a more-experienced player. But McRae has clearly impressed enough to earn a chance at a ring on this championship contender (non-Warriors division).
