In 2010, the Pacers were reportedly interested in trading the No. 10 pick for Ty Lawson – and that seem like enough to get the point guard.

Now, Lawson could be headed to Indiana for a prorated portion of the room exception or the minimum salary.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:

Lawson would provide more depth behind George Hill, though Indiana has plenty of other point guard options – Monta Ellis, Rodney Stuckey and Joseph Young. I suppose Lawson wouldn’t hurt, though he’d have to play like did with the Nuggets rather than the Rockets to actually earn minutes.

Former Denver coach Brian Shaw was a a Pacers assistant under Frank Vogel, and Shaw and Lawson sometimes clashed with the Nuggets. But Indiana has a pretty good track record with players who clashed with coaches elsewhere. Larry Bird and co. deserve the benefit of the doubt.

The Pacers have a full roster of 15 players, so they’d have to waive someone to sign Lawson. Shayne Whittington seems most expendable.
