Carmelo Anthony – while the Knicks were losing for the 15th time in their last 18 games – told a heckler to direct his complaints to Knicks owner James Dolan. Melo:

All I did was point at Dolan and told him, ‘Look, the owner’s right there. Ask for your money back.’

It was a witty comment in the moment, and that should have been the end of it.

Of course, the Knicks – as they’re prone to do – made the story a bigger deal by tweeting an apology and attaching Melo’s name to it:

I’m not sure whom Melo actually offended other than the heckler, who was clearly begging for a response. Maybe Melo bothered Dolan, but I didn’t take the forward’s retort as a shot at the owner.

Then again, who knows how the petty Dolan interpreted it? The Knicks’ over-the-top response probably gives some indication, though.
