Report: Sean Marks leaning toward rejecting Nets’ offer

The Nets dragged their feet in their general-managing search and offered the job to Sean Marks just two days before the trade deadline.

Now, one day before the deadline, it’s unclear whether someone will be in place in time to make a move.

Mitch Lawrence of Sporting News:

I’m surprised Marks got this far in the process without being certain he’d take the job. This could be a negotiating ploy, and/or Lawrence could have bad information. But there are also always more terms to discuss once the job is offered.

Or maybe it just hit Marks how dire Brooklyn’s situation is – little talent, an even worse draft-pick situation and an owner who, until today, has repeatedly expressed unrealistic expectations.

The Nets shouldn’t necessarily trade before tomorrow’s 3 p.m. deadline. Hiring the best available general manager is far more important. But giving that person a chance to deal now would be nice.

As we’ve said over and over, Brooklyn put itself in this dire position.
