With All-Star Weekend less than a month away, we’re coming up on the announcement of the participants for the other events, including the dunk contest and the three-point contest. There had been widespread speculation that Andrew Wiggins would participate in the dunk contest — after all, All-Star Weekend is in his native Toronto, and his teammate Zach LaVine won it last year. But Wiggins recently told The Starters‘ Tas Melas that he’s not interested.
Here’s the video (h/t CBSSports.com):
It’s too bad that Wiggins doesn’t want to do it. It would be fun to see him dunk in front of his hometown fans, and potentially compete against LaVine (if LaVine decides to do it again). But if he doesn’t want to do it, he doesn’t want to do it. LeBron James famously resisted it, too, and it caused some backlash among fans but everybody ultimately lived. There are plenty of other people who could do the dunk contest to make it entertaining.
