A 19-year-old high school student accused J.R. Smith of choking him in New York in November, a response to heckling about the guard’s trade from the Knicks to the Cavaliers.

The New York Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office say they have closed the investigation.

“After a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding this case, we have concluded that the evidence does not support criminal charges against Mr. Smith,” Patrick Munice, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, said in a statement to cleveland.com.

Now, Smith can focus on other issues – like keeping his cool on the court.
