Anderson Varejao’s flop drew a foul, likely draws warning from league

That’s a flop.

Not that it mattered to the outcome of the game, but Cleveland’s Anderson Varejao flopped during the second quarter of Monday’s showcase game, drawing a foul on the Warriors’ Festus Ezeli.

It worked, he drew the call. His punishment for this from the league can at most be a warning — “hey, don’t do that again.” If he does it again? He gets a $5,000 fine. Varejao’s single-game check this season is $117,543 (pre-tax). So sure, that should dissuade him.

If the NBA wants to end this, they will hit guys hard in the pocket books. Until they do, we will continue to get plenty of similar plays.
