Hanging over the head of the entire NBA this season is Kevin Durant‘s upcoming free agency, and it’s no secret that the Lakers will be among his most prominent suitors. They always at least get a meeting with every superstar free agent, including LaMarcus Aldridge last summer and LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony the summer before. The fans are well aware that the Lakers will be in the running for Durant, and one guy made a custom jersey, just in case:
The Lakers will be able to sell Durant on being the next face of the franchise, now that Kobe Bryant has announced he’s retiring at the end of the season. He’ll likely get to pick his coach (it’s hard to imagine they commit to Byron Scott long-term), and there’s a promising core of young players including D'Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and Larry Nance, Jr. The case is obvious. But it’s hard to imagine him leaving a situation as good as the one he has in Oklahoma City unless he’s going to a team that he knows has the pieces to win now, like Miami or Golden State (both of whom will be in play).
