The Mavericks trailed the Kings by seven points with 1:20 left in double overtime.
Dallas ended the game on an incredible 8-0 run to produce a 117-116 victory.
First, Deron Williams drove for a layup to bring the Mavericks within five. Sacramento missed two shots on the ensuing possession.
That left a 2.3-second difference between shot clock and game clock in a two-point game. Dallas coach Rick Carlisle made the – incorrect, I’d argue strongly – choice not to foul. But it worked. Darren Collison air-balled for a shot-clock violation.
The Mavericks called timeout, and Williams made a brilliant play – pump-faking Rudy Gay out of position while holding enough of his balance to make this:
DeMarcus Cousins (35 points, 17 rebounds, six steals, four assists and a block) did everything he could, including sending the game to overtime. But the Kings have now lost 22 straight in Dallas — though I suspect we’ll be reading tomorrow in the Last Two Minute Report that Sacramento probably should’ve won in the first overtime if the game had been called correctly.
