Mike D’Antoni is back in the game as a 76ers assistant.
Marc Stein of ESPN:
D’Antoni spent his best years with Phoenix, winning 62, 54, 61 and 55 games in his four full seasons. Those Suns reached two conference finals, revolutionized NBA offense and played better defense than most realized.
He wouldn’t be a bad hire – if Hornacek is fired, though that’s looking increasingly inevitable.
The Suns know D’Antoni well, and he knows them. He once said he regretted leaving Phoenix for the Knicks. Most importantly, the Suns’ roster mostly seems to fit D’Antoni’s up-tempo style.
Phoenix will have plenty of options – including Luke Walton and even keeping Hornacek. D’Antoni won’t necessarily be their best potential hire, but having him on the list only improves their odds of getting it right.
