Hassan Whiteside is going to get PAID this summer. Like max money paid.
Whiteside’s talent that will get him all that cash was on full display against the Mavericks as he put up 25 points (on 12-of-16 shooting) and grabbed 19 boards in the Heat’s comfortable 108-82 win Friday. Whiteside had 12 of his points in the second half of the second quarter and the 25 total matched his career high.
Whiteside is making less than $1 million this season because he was just happy to get back in the NBA last season and signed a two-year deal. Remember Whiteside fumbled around for a couple of seasons in Sacramento showing terrible work ethic, and he ended up having to play in China and Lebanon before coming back to the NBA and getting a second chance in Miami. He’s made the most of that chance.
Now he will be an unrestricted free agent big man who can block shots, and he’s hitting the market just as it is flooded with money from the new television deal. He’s going to be a max player and the question is will he be that with Miami or somewhere else (they don’t have his bird rights and can only offer about $3 million more in a four-year deal than anyone else).
