Warriors open as underdogs for first game all season

The Warriors are underdogs.

This is news.

Golden State has been favored every game this season until tonight’s game at the Rockets. The Warriors opened as seven-point underdogs and the line quickly settled at 1.5 or 2.

Missing Stephen Curry, the Warriors lost 114-91 to the Mavericks last night – Golden State’s most-lopsided loss of this season or last. The Warriors were 3.5-point favorites for that game, but oddsmakers clearly adjusted.

Golden State has yet to announce Curry will miss tonight’s game, but Luke Walton previously indicated the star guard would rest for two games. Add the back-to-back and Houston’s improved play, and this makes some sense.

But the Warriors have won 10 of 11 over the Rockets, including last season’s Western Conference Finals. And though the Warriors have been awful without Curry this season, they were at least decent last season. They could regress to a better mean this season without Curry.

I’d take Golden State and the points, though I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Houston covers.
