Brandan Wright, who signed with the Grizzlies this summer, missed more than a month before he revealed last week he’d have arthroscopic knee surgery.

Why such a long delay for surgery?

Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal:

The Grizzlies’ Grit & Grind culture does them a lot of good. The players pride themselves on toughness and hold each other accountable.

But this is a shortcoming of that environment.

Wright isn’t the most hard-nosed player – largely because of his rail-thin frame. He’s a skilled finisher and tries enough on defense to be adequate, but he’s prone to getting pushed around.

I was a little surprised the Grizzlies signed a player of that style, but I figured they were evolving.

Instead, if this report is accurate, they actually regressed into a team that put a player’s health at risk.

If I were Wright, I’d be pretty upset with the team.
