Kevin Martin injured his right wrist in the second minute of last night’s Timberwolves-Lakers game. He banged it while fighting through a Larry Nance Jr.-Lou Williams handoff, hunched over and then held it. Martin continued to clutch his wrist and wince for the next couple possessions.

Then, he scored 35 of his 37 points in Minnesota’s win.

Martin made 6-of-9 3-pointers and scored 17 points in the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter – all with a hurt wrist.

How bad is the injury? We’ll see, but it at least requires further testing.

Kent Youngblood of the StarTribune:

Martin is having the wrist checked Thursday morning.

If this all sounds familiar, it should.

Martin scored 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting against the Knicks last season after fracturing his wrist. I’d be surprised if this injury was that serious, but I was surprised that injury was that serious.

Maybe Martin should let someone chop his wrist just before every game.

Then again, he’s not always being defended by last year’s Knicks or this year’s Lakers.
