Pelicans’ Anthony Davis sits out second half with hip contusion

The Pelicans finally got a win. Their outside shots finally fell, Ish Smith came in off the bench with a dozen assists, Ryan Anderson had 25 points, and New Orleans beat Dallas comfortably 120-105.

And they did it without Anthony Davis in the second half.

Davis suffered a hip contusion in the first half and did not return after the break, the team announced. X-rays were negative, but the team decided to err on the side of caution and hold him out of the second half. His status for the Pelicans’ game Wednesday night against the Hawks is unknown, it will depend on how he responds to treatment and feels before the game.

The Pelicans led by 18 at the half and were able to maintain that lead without Davis to pick up their first win of the season.

After a rough start Davis has played well of late and is averaging 25.2 points and 9.3 rebounds a game.
