The deadline to sign players from the 2012 draft class to rookie-scale extensions is Monday. Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes have already suspended their talks, while Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, John Henson and Jonas Valanciunas have agreed to long-term deals. Valanciunas’ teammate, Terrence Ross, is hoping to have a new deal by Monday as well, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN Radio:
Unless Ross is willing to sign a very cap-friendly deal, it’s hard to see something getting done by Monday. Ross is exactly the kind of player restricted free agency is designed for: he’s not close to a max player, and his value around the league isn’t clear-cut. The Raptors aren’t going to overpay him, so it would make more sense for him to wait until this summer to shop himself around and establish his value, and then see if Toronto wants to match.
