Since the Pistons hired Stan Van Gundy before last season, it’s been impossible not to make Andre Drummond–Dwight Howard comparisons. Now that Van Gundy has a roster that fits his style, rather than the disjointed mess he inherited last season, it should open up a lot of things for Drummond at both ends of the floor. He didn’t disappoint in Detroit’s season-opening win over Atlanta, putting up 18 points, 19 boards and two blocks. It’s going to be a huge year for Drummond — with Greg Monroe out of the way and a group of bigs like Ersan Ilyasova that better compliment him, Drummond is going to have all the space in the world to operate in the paint. It’s hard not to see him having a career year.
