Today: Cavaliers media day.
Tomorrow: Cavaliers first practice.
Thursday: Deadline for Tristan Thompson to accept his qualifying offer.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN:
Thompson will almost certainly make a decision by Thursday. If he lets his qualifying offer expire, he’d remain a restricted free agent – but without his biggest leverage. The Cavaliers could extend his window to accept the qualifying offer, but why would they?
The Cavaliers are reportedly offering Thompson five years, $80 million (an increase on their initial offer, which must have come the first day of free agency). Thompson wants a five-year max contract, but he’ll settle for a three-year max contract.
Maybe one side will blink, but Thompson’s teammates – especially LeBron James, who shares agent Rich Paul – will have to answer about the situation first. Meanwhile, Thompson will stay home.
