Four of the five Clippers starters are set: Chris Paul, J.J. Redick, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Doc Rivers has said recently that he’s leaning towards starting Wesley Johnson rather than Paul Pierce, who had been assumed to be the starter. One thing Rivers made clear at training camp: he likes Lance Stephenson with the second unit.
If Stephenson is willing to come off the bench, he’s pretty much ideally suited to a role as an energy guy with the second unit. And he has every incentive to go along with it: after a disastrous season in Charlotte last year, he needs to rehabilitate his career.
