SVG clarifies: Jennings not ready for Pistons camp

There have been conflicting reports in the last few days about Brandon Jennings‘ health.

One said he’s not close to being cleared. The other said he’s clear for full basketball activities.

The truth?

Pistons president/coach Stan Van Gundy, via Keith Langlois of

Brandon won’t be able to do anything with the group in camp.

Van Gundy previously said he expects Jennings to play in mid- to late-December. That seems reasonable for someone limited to individual workouts in training camp.

Detroit probably isn’t stressing this. Reggie Jackson is their clear starting point guard, and Steve Blake and Spencer Dinwiddie are capable backups.

The Pistons will be stronger when Jennings returns, but – with Jackson locked up long-term Jennings on an expiring contract – Jennings is probably mostly a trade chip.
