Report: Warriors signing former WVU PG Juwan Staten

They Warriors didn’t get Seth Curry, but they’ll sign another unproven point guard.

Juwan Staten doesn’t fit the mold of the outside-shooting wings Golden State has added this offseason – Chris Babb, Ian Clark and Jarrell Eddie.

Staten, who went undrafted this year, is a penetrating point guard with a questionable jumper. Not many 6-foot players make it in the NBA with that skill set.

The Warriors have just 13 players with guaranteed salaries, but I’d bet on at least one of Babb, Clark and Eddie making the regular-season roster over Staten. And if it’s only one of that trio, I’d take James McAdoo ($100,000 guaranteed) over Staten, too.

With Stephen Curry, Shaun Livingston, Leandro Barbosa and Andre Iguodala, Golden State just doesn’t need another point guard.

Most likely, the Warriors waive Staten before the regular season and assign his D-League rights to their affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.
