Quietly hanging over the Hawks’ heads this offseason has been the April nightclub incident in New York City that saw Pacers forward Chris Copeland stabbed by a bystander, and Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosha suffering a season-ending leg injury in an altercation with the police. Sefolosha and then-teammate Pero Antic were arrested that night. According to ESPN.com’s Ian Begley, Sefolosha’s trial has been set for October 5 and the case against Antic has been dismissed.
Sefolosha has been vocal since the incident about his belief that he was unjustly beaten by NYPD officers, and the NBPA launched their own investigation into the matter. The trial will take place during training camp, which will be an unfortunate distraction but everybody involved would like to see this play out as quickly as possible.
