The Wizards will have a pretty intriguing training-camp competition that probably won’t matter – for a while, at least.
Washington has 15 players with guaranteed salaries, but that didn’t stop the team from signing Toure’ Murry or Ish Smith.
Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post:
Smith is a speedy, but undersized, point guard who has bounced between the Rockets, Grizzlies, Warriors, Magic, Bucks, Suns, Thunder and 76ers in five NBA seasons.
Either he or Murry would make a fine third point guard – but so would Garrett Temple, who has a guaranteed salary. That gives Temple a huge, likely insurmountable, edge.
Most likely, Smith and Murry are just trying to prove they’d deserve they deserve a spot if Washington makes a trade that trims the roster.
