The Raptors brought back Dwane Casey after a disappointing season (keeping in mind it was disappointing only because Casey helped raise expectations the year prior).
Raptors media relations:
He has a lot of ingredients you look for in a coach. Stackhouse filled multiple roles as a player, from touted star to journeyman. So, he should relate with the entire roster. He also really figured out the nuances of NBA basketball as his career unfolded, seeing the game better than he got credit for.
Plus, he’s a notorious fighter, which adds huge entertainment value to this hire. He has fought teammates (Christian Laettner and Allen Iverson) and opponents (Jeff Hornacek and Kirk Snyder). Stackhouse even got into it with an opposing coach, Byron Scott, in 2008:
“I was about ready to kick his ass — you know what I’m sayin? He was sitting on the sideline and we just got into a little conversation or something and he was going to tell me, you know, ‘Talk to me when you get a ring.’ I was like, I told that fool, ‘If I played with Magic and Worthy and Kareem I’d have a ring, too. So, you know, he’s a sucker in my book, but that’s a whole other story.”
Kalamian (Thunder) and Greer (Bulls) come to Toronto after the previous head coaches they worked under got fired.
