The Mavericks are getting an agile, explosive big man who finishes well inside and gobbles up rebounds.
For real, this time.
Free agent center Jarrid Famous has reached agreement on a partially guaranteed three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources told RealGM.
The Mavericks pursued DeAndre Jordan because he’d fit well in their system.
Though a lesser-caliber player, Famous – a 6-foot-11 27-year-old – plays a similar style. He went undrafted out of South Florida in 2011, playing overseas and in the D-League since. Famous averaged 16 and 15 in the D-League last season, spending most of the year with the Mavericks-affiliated Texas Legends.
He has a chance to make Dallas’ regular-season roster. If he pans out, the Mavericks could get good value over the life of his contract. That’s why they gave him a partial guarantee in return.
