Report: Nuggets hire Ed Pinckney as assistant coach

In the last few months, the Nuggets lost their top two coaches.

They fired Brian Shaw, replaced him with Melvin Hunt and then let Hunt leave for the Mavericks.

Of course, the Nuggets lost Hunt only after hiring Michael Malone as head coach. Now, they’ve found Malone’s lead assistant.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

Pinckney seemed to do a nice job with the Bulls. He interviewed with the Grizzlies and 76ers a couple years ago. But Fred Hoiberg surely wanted to hire his own staff.

To some degree, Pinckney was probably overshadowed in Chicago by Tom Thibodeau and fellow assistant Adrian Griffin, who’s headed to the Magic. Denver will give Pinckney a chance to earn more consideration for a head-coaching job.

The Nuggets also get a pretty good coach. They should be upgraded on the bench – whether it’s from Shaw/Hunt or Hunt without a full arsenal of assistants. Malone-Pinckney is a solid combo.
