When he tried to get Roy Hibbert to opt out by emphasizing the Pacers’ plan to play small, Larry Bird said Lavoy Allen was in line for more minutes.
Hibbert opted in, so unless Indiana trades him, we’ll see whether that was just a bluff on Bird’s part – because Allen will be back.

That’s not cheap, but it’s about the going rate for borderline rotation big. As much as the league is going smaller, size still comes at a premium.
Allen is strong, a good rebounder, an excellent finisher at the rim and a solid interior defender. He’s not the prototypical stretch big the Pacers want for their new up-tempo pace. But Indiana can’t switch styles overnight. Allen will have to do – and maybe he can handle the change a little better than Hibbert.
